Like many a newborn child we don’t have a formal name for it yet…but we’re excited to be taking over the warehouse to the rear of our store. The warehouse used to be the home of Bellingen Solar…but their continued growth meant a move to Coffs Harbour – opening up some exciting possibilities for us, and for town!

The plan for the space – at this stage – is to insulate and seal the warehouse, remove the current internal offices (re-using materials where possible) and then install a new, sustainable, internal layout…

The new internal space will include more warehouse space for Kombu. We’ve been growing since we first opened in 2004 and have, once again, outgrown our current space. The new warehouse space will allow us to put in place a more efficient flow of stock into the store – no more clashes at the front till as deliveries arrive at the same time as customers! It will also allow us to buy in larger quantities – meaning more efficient freight and less environmental impact per item purchased. We’ll be sharing the warehouse space with Hearth Fire Bakery who, like us, have been growing quickly and need some more room to store products. But the really exciting part…

…is the development of our cultivator space. This will be a community space offered for free to our community for workshops, film nights, educational programs and more! With a focus on environmental issues, sustainable food and children’s sport we look forward to hosting a range of great events that help to nourish, support and strengthen our community.

We’ve still got a long way to go, but we’re loving the journey. We’ll post updates on this page and on our social media and look forward to sharing more with you as the project develops.

Right now a big huge thank you to the always awesome Jay Black for the images, our landlords Steve and Emma for their support, the incredible Kombu crew for their excitement, ideas and enthusiasm, and the local building community for jumping on board.
